The Road of the Guitar

Nov 3
2025
5:00pm - 6:30pm
On Campus Event - Wyndham, Ely Room
Alejo

Come join the Spanish Department for an evening with guitarists Patricio Acevedo and Alejo de los Reyes! They will guide us through the long history of the versatile guitar, treating us with pieces ranging from Medieval Spain to contemporary Latin America, including Brazil. It will be a truly unique experience: among others, they will play instruments such as the vihuela (a 15th Century Renaissance precursor to modern guitar), the tres (a three-course chordophone of Cuban origin), the cuatro (four strings, played nowadays mostly in Colombia, Venezuela, and Puerto Rico), and the charango (a small Andean stringed instrument, originally manufactured with the shell of the back of armadillos). Refreshments will be provided.

This event is co-sponsored by The 1902 Lecture Fund, LAILS, The Department of Music (Haverford), and The Department of Spanish (Haverford).
